John LyneMy Japan Experience by John Lyne

Before coming to Japan I had little or no experience of the country or its culture.  I was drawn here by the chance to experience an exotic environment that I had previously only encountered through literature and movies.

Working for Amity has been a very rewarding experience.  The working environment is supportive and allows teachers to express themselves creatively.  I have learned so much from students through their energy and dedication to learning English.  My fellow staff members are extremely helpful and I have always felt welcome in the workplace.

Living in Japan is unlike anything I have ever experienced.  It has to be seen to be believed.  The culture is fascinating in its huge diversity.  It is possible at one moment to be in an amusement arcade surrounded by the din and chaos of hundreds of people playing the latest video games; and the next moment to be at a calm and meditative Shrine or Temple.  The Japanese people are both inquisitive and friendly and almost never fail to be welcoming to curious foreigners.  I will never forget my time in Japan.  I have been fortunate to make many good friends and I feel that I have grown immeasurably as an individual as a result of my experiences.
